Bachchan's books of poetry include Madhushala, Madhubala, and Madhukalash.

The following is a translation of Madhushala, a work that made him famous almost overnight:

His love for English poetry was demonstrated by his translation of Shakespeare into Hindi as well as a book on the relationship between Yeats's poetry and Indian mythology: Bachchan, Harbans Rai. W.B. Yeats and occultism: a study of his works in relation to Indian lore, the Cabbala, Swedenborg, Boehme, and theosophy. Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass, 1965.

Bachchan's autobiography:
In the afternoons of time: the autobiography of Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Ed. and Trans. Rupert Snell. New Delhi: Penguin India, 1997.
