At the end of Book Two, Jupiter fell in love with Europa, daughter of Agenor, king of Phoenicia. Before presenting himself to Europa he turned himself into a bull, to avoid the wrath of Juno--or maybe just for kicks. At any rate, Europa befriended the beast and climbed on top of him for a ride, whereupon Jupiter ran into the water and swam to Crete with the captive princess. Thus begins Book Three...
