Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was born in 1904 in a village called Nihalpur in Allahabad, India. After her 1919 marriage to Thakur Laxman Singh she moved to Jabalpur, where she played an active role in the revolutionary movement. Chauhan's politics also found their way into her fiercely patriotic poems, such as "Senani Ka Swagat" and "Veeronka Kaise Ho Vasant." In addition to being a prolific poet, she was also assistant editor of the magazine Karmavira for several years. Chauhan was awarded the Kesariya prize for her works. She died in a car accident in 1948. |
